Pragmatist thought is in tune with modern artistic processes. This paper shows how and why pragmatism may connect art and its objects with the whole of a culture and its language games. Dewey 's concept of "experience " is examined as a useful way of overcoming the main difficulties that obscure most contemporary aesthetics and our individual or social relations to art.
