Résumé anglais |
At the AFEA conference in Toulouse (May 1998), I presented a paper for the Plenary session on "American studies ". My purpose was to bring into the debate some data and perspectives coming from my experience as a French historian of North-America, teaching in an English department. My point is that French historians of North-America produce knowledge and methods that answer some of the needs in the training of students. First, I analyze American studies programs for teaching and exams, as well as doctoral dissertations, and I point in these subjects what is particularly relevant to history as a discipline. Secondly, I discuss the practice and scientific interest of a pluralist approach to American studies. Source : Éditeur (via Persée) |
