Reprenant la thèse de son premier article de 1937 (la nature de la firme) Coase conserve une vision originale de l'économie plongeant jusqu'aux racines de la nature humaine et prône un système théorique introduisant la notion de « coût de transaction ». Une attitude faite d'humilité face à la complexité encore mal connue des relations entre les systèmes économique et juridique le conduit à reprendre à la base les déterminations, en amont de tout ce qui est, à tort estime Coase, considéré come acquis : le rôle fondamental de la firme, du marché et de la loi... Taking the subject of his first article written in 1937 (the nature of the firm) Coase maintains an original vision of the economy, going right down to the roots of human nature, and preaches a theoretical system introducing the notion of « transation costs ». A humble attitude in view of the still unknown complexity of relations between the economic and legal systems, leads him to take up determination again from the start, ahead of all that is, wrongly in Coase' s view, considered as established fact - the fundamental role of the firm, the market and the law.
