Cet article examine les études de Weber sur la psychophysique publiées en 1908-1909 au regard de L'Éthique protestante, au moyen du problème de la communauté : d'une part la communauté sectaire, qui permet de penser une subjectivité religieuse et économique constamment sous le contrôle de ses pairs ; d'autre part la communauté ouvrière, espace d'expression d'une rationalité aiguë et en même temps de contrôle social strict : la rationalité ouvrière se développe, selon Weber, dans un ajustement constant par rapport aux décisions des entrepreneurs, ajustement qui peut aller jusqu'à des stratégies de « freinage » où un rapport de force s'installe silencieusement, selon les normes mêmes du capitalisme, avec le patronat. Nous examinerons ainsi comment la subjectivité peut être pensée par une psychologie sociale où la communauté joue un rôle crucial, et comment elle parvient, par la rationalité, à déjouer l'aliénation que fait peser sur elle le capitalisme. This article examines Weber's studies on psychophysics published in 1908- 1909 in relation to The Protestant Ethic, by means of the problem of community: on the one hand, the sectarian community, which makes it possible to think of a religious and economic subjectivity constantly under the control of its peers; on the other hand, the working-class community, a space for the expression of acute rationality and at the same time of strict social control: According to Weber, working-class rationality develops through constant adjustment to the decisions of entrepreneurs, an adjustment which can go as far as “braking” strategies where a relationship of power is silently established, according to the very norms of capitalism, with the bosses. We will thus examine how workers can be thought through by a social psychology in which community plays a crucial role, and how they manage, through rationality and within its norms, to overcome the alienation imposed on them by capitalism.
