Cet article revient sur la réception, entre 1941 et 1943 aux États-Unis, de l'ouvrage The Cheyenne Way écrit par Karl N. Llewellyn et E. Adamson Hoebel. Il s'agit de considérer l'influence de cette réception immédiate sur la construction du caractère classique de l'ouvrage. En se fondant sur un corpus de trente-quatre recensions, l'article montre que la classicisation de The Cheyenne Way peut en partie s'expliquer par la construction, à l'époque, d'une image de pionnier en matière d'étude interdisciplinaire. À l'inverse, le fait que Llewellyn soit considéré comme un des grands noms du réalisme juridique ne semble pas avoir joué un rôle dans la naissance de la réputation de l'ouvrage dans les années 1940. This article examines the reception in the United States, between 1941 and 1943, of the book The Cheyenne Way by Karl N. Llewellyn and E. Adamson Hoebel. The goal is to investigate the influence of this reception on the construction of the book's status as a classic. Based on a corpus of thirty-four reviews, the article shows that the classicizing The Cheyenne Way can be partly attributed to the construction, at the time, of its image as a pioneer in interdisciplinary study. Conversely, the fact that Llewellyn is considered as one of the leading figures of legal realism does not seem to have played a role in the emergence of the book's reputation in the 1940s.
