Les abbayes bénédictines implantées dans les Pays-Bas méridionaux ont connu un important renouveau au xve siècle sous l'impulsion de mouvements de réforme réclamant un retour à l'observance de la règle, phénomène qui s'est traduit dans un nouveau dynamisme dans la copie et l'achat de livres. Cette contribution, basée sur l'exploitation d'un corpus de 1 201 manuscrits datés ou datables des XIVe et XVe siècles et ayant appartenu aux abbayes bénédictines de la région, vise à mettre en lumière le lien entre la demande de livres générée par la réforme et la typologie textuelle des ouvrages, la langue utilisée et l'ancienneté des auteurs copiés. L'analyse montre que l'approvisionnement en livres se focalise sur les textes qui encadrent la vie commune, les œuvres historiques d'intérêt local et surtout les textes de spiritualité et de dévotion. The Benedictine abbeys of the Southern Low Countries experienced a major revival in the fifteenth century under the influence of reform movements that sought a return to the observance of the Benedictine rule. This phenomenon was reflected in a new dynamism in the copying and acquisition of books. Our study is based on a corpus of 1,201 manuscripts dated or datable from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries and belonging to Benedictine abbeys from the Southern Low Countries. It attempts to elucidate the relationship between the demand for books generated by the reform and the textual typology of the works, the language they used, and the “antiquity” of the authors copied. The analysis shows that the supply of books was concentrated on texts relating to the life of the community, historical works of local interest and, above all, spiritual and devotional texts.
