Cet article porte sur la genèse de l'expertise en sondages d'opinion en Argentine dans les
années 1980 et analyse les conditions sociales et politiques du succès de l'instrument à partir de 1983.
Son institutionnalisation est liée aux transformations des formes de perception et d'action politiques
ainsi qu'au succès des démarches des futurs sondeurs, qui ont proposé les sondages comme outil cognitif et symbolique aux différents acteurs des espaces politique et journalistique lorsque débute le processus de « transition démocratique ». Il s'agira premièrement de montrer en quoi les changements
politiques qui affectent l'Argentine à partir de 1983 (fin de la dictature militaire, défaite du péronisme)
font partie des conditions de possibilité de l'institutionnalisation des sondages comme outil politique ;
deuxièmement, comment les experts-sondeurs ont contribué à la « modernisation » du champ politique
et, enfin, comment ils ont constitué un espace spécifique à la frontière des mondes politique, médiatique

History of a Conversion to the Polls. Socio-Genesis of the Political Use of the Polls in Argentina
This article analyses the genesis of the expertise in public opinion polls in Argentina in the
1980's and the social and political conditions of the success of the instrument. The institutionalization of the means is seen as being related to the transformations of the political perception and action forms and to the success of the future pollsters, which have proposed the polls
as a cognitive and symbolic tool to the agents of the political and journalistic fields when the
process of the so-called democratic transition began. The objective is to show, firstly, in what
way political changes affecting Argentina since 1983 (end of a military dictatorship, defeat at
the elections of Peronism) are conditions of possibility for the institutionalization of the polls
as political tool. Secondly, how the expert-pollsters contributed to the “modernization” of the
political field. Finally, how – in order to impose the legitimacy of their instrument – they have
