Résumé - La société civile semble depuis quelques années être au centre des préoccupations des chercheurs travaillant sur l'évolution sociopolitique en Iran. En fait cette question ne fait que reprendre un
autre schéma plus classique de l'iranologie : l'antagonisme entre État et société. Selon cette thèse, le
penchant à l'autoritarisme ou l'obstacle à une société démocratique résiderait dans un conflit ancestral
opposant le peuple à son gouvernement. Ce travail souhaiterait d'une part montrer que, réifié à
l'extrême, l'antagonisme entre l'État et la société, ou encore la glorification de la société civile, se nourrit
de l'islamophobie ambiante via sa traduction abrégée, la pratique du voile ; d'autre part, il invite à revenir
à l'anthropologie afin d'assumer un changement d'optique et mettre un terme à un aveuglement idéologique qui polarise depuis une trentaine d'années le résultat de certaines recherches. Source : Éditeur (via Cairn.info) |

Islamophobia and Malaise in Anthropology. To Be or Not to Be Veiled in Iran

Civil Society has become a key issue while analysing the social and political developments in
Iran throughout the last decade. In fact the stress on the Civil Society issue looks like the reassertion of an old thesis that stated the strategic antagonism between State and society. This
latter approach provides an explanation of the despotism or the lack of democracy as a dominant feature of the Iranian society. I would like in this paper first to point out the extent by
which the Islamophobia trend is fuelling this very approach of the Iranian society, and second,
I would like to draw attention to what anthropology needs to remain, a science of context, in
