This article is a reflexive analysis of the translation of a contemporary novel, Jakob Guanzon's Abundance. It deals with the translation of orality, seeking to avoid normalization and caricature, as well as with the characterization of the main protagonists through their use of language. It shows how the theoretical framework of discourse analysis contributed to the translation process, especially when it came to tackling the issues of interdiscursivity and circulation of professional and commercial discourses.
