Avec l'immigration d'ouvriers et d'ouvrières de Turquie vers la RFA (à partir de 1961) et d'Algérie vers la France (à partir de 1968), suite à des accords bilatéraux pour le développement de l'industrie, une scène théâtrale s'est formée parallèlement dans les deux pays, qui s'est interrogée sur la figure du Gastarbeiter ou du travailleur immigré. Comme le montrent les textes théâtraux de Yüksel Pazarkaya et Emine Sevgi Özdamar, de Kateb Yacine analysés ici ainsi que le travail théâtral de la troupe La Kahina, la représentation de ce personnage se déplace de l'ouvrier vers l'immigré, de la deuxième moitié des années 1960 jusqu'au début des années 1980 : alors qu'au début, c'est encore le statut social des personnages qui marque leur représentation, les descriptions de personnages affichant une assignation culturelle passent de plus en plus au premier plan. With the immigration of workers from Turkey to the FRG (from 1961) and from Algeria to France (from 1968) as a result of bilateral agreements for the development of industry, a theater scene emerged in both countries at the onset that also dealt with the figure of the guest worker or travailleur immigré. As the selected theater texts by Yüksel Pazarkaya and Emine Sevgi Özdamar, by Kateb Yacine and the theater work of the group La Kahina show, the representation of this figure shifted from worker to migrant from the second half of the 1960s to the early 1980s: While in the beginning the social status of the characters still determines their portrayal, culturally attributed character descriptions then increasingly come to the fore. The concept of alterity, or more precisely the construction of alterity, serves as an analytical tool for working out the separation and superimposition of categories of difference.
