Ce texte propose quelques réflexions sur la constitution et l'utilisation de la notion de Sud comme « contenant géographique » de l'altérité, et les problèmes que cela peut poser. La correspondance qui existe entre la partition théorique du monde entre « Nord » et « Sud » et les logiques géographiques coloniales amène à réfléchir aussi sur les enjeux de pouvoir liés au discours géographique, sur les conditions de son énonciation, de sa légitimation, et au final de la responsabilité sociale qu'il emporte. L'article plaide pour plus de réflexivité, pour un positionnement plus transparent des chercheurs, et pour une posture scientifique qui dépasse nostalgie et exotisme pour mieux rendre compte de l'hybridité et de la complexité des situations auxquelles ils sont confrontés. “Deliver us from exoticism” : some thoughts on the unthought aspects of geographical research on the Souths (and the Norths) This paper gives some thoughts on the build-up and utilization of the notion of South as a “geographical box” for “alterity” and the problems that this can arouse. The correspondence exists between the theoretical division of the world between “North” and “South” and the logic of colonial geography lead also to consideration of the power issues linked to the geographical discourse geographical, on the conditions in which the term is called upon, its legitimization, and finally of the social responsibility that it carries. The article advocates more reflexivity in order to reach a more transparent positioning among researchers and for a scientific posture which goes beyond nostalgia and exoticism to take better account of the hybrid nations and the complexity of the situations with which they are confronted.
