La pertinence de la notion de « sud » en opposition au « nord » est partiellement remise en cause par le renforcement de la mondialisation. Les villes sont soumises à une concurrence accrue à l'échelle internationale. L'enjeu pour elles est de se parer des atouts permettant d'attirer les flux d'investissements notamment internationaux. Cet enjeu oriente les politiques urbaines et s'illustre dans la conception et les modalités de la restructuration urbaine des quartiers centraux. Nous nous posons la question de savoir en quoi le contexte mondial et, plus précisément, les grands projets visant au renforcement économique des villes posent de nouvelles contraintes aux habitants et comment ceux-ci s'engagent dans des actions contestataires. Urban dwellers faced with the issues of internationalization of the city. Casablanca and Marseille : where is the North, where is the South ? The pertinence of the opposed notions “South” and “North” is being challenged by the strengthening of globalization. Cities are being subjected to increased competition on an international scale. The major issue for them is to make sure they have the attributes that can attract an influx of investments, especially international ones. The issue is determining the course of urban policies and its influence shows in the urban redevelopment planning and methods applied to city centre districts. The article examines ways in which the global context and, more specifically, the large-scale projects aiming to reinforce cities' economic capacity impose new constraints on inhabitants and how these people engage in protest actions.
