Les « révolutions colorées » en Géorgie, en Ukraine et au Kirghizstan ont suscité de vives polémiques dès leurs débuts : étaient-elles principalement le résultat d'une action exogène ou un mouvement endogène ? À l'évidence, l'intervention étrangère a été très importante. Mais renverser un pouvoir autoritaire avec des méthodes non violentes nécessite un fort soutien populaire. Plutôt que sur l'opposition des caractères exogènes et endogènes, le propos porte donc davantage sur leur imbrication, centré sur le rôle joué par les ONG internationales et occidentales dans ces révolutions. International and Western NGOs in “coloured revolutions”. About ambiguities of democratization. “Coloured revolutions” in Georgia, Ukraine and in Kyrgyzstan have caused heated debates when they started off : were they mainly the result of exogenous interventions, or that of an endogenous movement ? Obviously, foreign interference played a significant role. However, to overthrow an authoritarian government with non-violent means requires a strong popular support as well. Rather than insisting on an opposition between their exogenous versus endogenous dimensions, the analysis presented in this article bears on their articulation and interweaving, rooted in the role international and Western NGOs played in these revolutions.
