  ALGERIEN DANS L'IMBROGLIO DES DÉSIGNATIONS Les ethnonymes véhiculent le sens dont les locuteurs les ont chargés. Ceux qui ont, en français, servi à désigner les habitants de l'Algérie en témoignent dans les valeurs parfois contraires qu'ils expriment. Ils ont enregistré les rapports conflictuels de l'espace méditerranéen puis du cadre colonial ; les « batailles sémantiques » dont ils furent l'objet reflètent celles de l'histoire.

  «ALGERIEN» IN THE IMBROGLIO OF DESIGNATIONS Ethnonyms carry the sense with which they are attributed by the speakers who use them. Those which, in French, have served to designate the habitants of Algeria bear witness to this, through the sometimes contradictory values that they express. They are a record of the conflictual relations with which the colonial legacy has marked the Mediterranean region ; these objects of « semantic battles » are the reflection of historical conflicts.

  NOMMER POUR EXISTER: DE L'ETHNONYME COMME ENJEU POLITIQUE S'il y va de l'unité des pays à vocation démocratique de ne mentionner dans les textes officiels fondateurs que l'ethnonyme rassembleur, tel n'est pas le cas de l'Algérie qui inscrit, aux côtés d'Algériens, des ethnonymes dissembleurs tels que Arabe, Berbère et Musulman, compliquant ainsi la crise multiforme que connaît le pays.

  NAMING TO EXIST: ABOUT ETHNONYMS AS POLITICAL STAKE Although there is generally an unwritten rule amongst countries of a democratic calling, that only the unificatory ethnonym be mentioned in official founding texts, this is not the case for Algeria, where alongside Algerians, are to be found differentiating ethnonyms such as Arab, Berber and Muslim. This adds further complications to the multiform crisis which the country is undergoing.

  ENTRE L'ANCIEN ET LE MODERNE. IMAGES ROMANESQUES DE L'ALGÉRIENNE Il s'agira ici de la libération de la femme algérienne, thème récurrent des romans du Maghreb comme ceux du Machrek. La femme algérienne s'affranchit de l'injustice sociale au prix de son travail et soutenue par sa foi. De nouvelles représentations littéraires témoignent de sa liberté de vivre, acquise par la protestation, le refus et assumée par l'écriture militante.

  BETWEEN ANCIENT AND MODERN. NOVELS AND THE IMAGE OF THE ALGERIAN WOMAN The subject here will be the liberation of the Algerian woman, which is a recurrent theme in novels from the Maghreb, such as those of Machrek. Through her work and sustained by her faith, the Algerian woman is emancipating herself from social injustice. New literary representations are evidence of a freedom to live, which has been obtained through protest and resistance, and is being taken up by militant literature.
