- Avant-propos - Claire Bruyère p. 6 pages
- Points de repère - Claire Bruyère p. 4 pages
- L'édition et la distribution du livre aux Etats-Unis : lignes de force - François Cusset p. 25 pages Number one cultural industry in the United States, the book industry can be portrayed by looking at three facets : a relatively low degree of diversity within the book title output, a new balance of power between major conglomerates and new forms of independent publishing, and the rise and fame of bookstore chains and online distributors.
- Le droit d'auteur français et le copyright américain : les enjeux - Jules-Marc Baudel p. 12 pages This paper shows how authors ' rights on their work are protected in France and in the United States. In France, authors benefit from a moral right which is only partly protected in the United States. Although the origins of the protection differ, national legislations and case law indicate that the two conceptions now tend to converge. Besides, the problem has shifted towards the question of global freedom of communication.
- L'Amérique, désert des traductions - François Cusset p. 5 pages The US has the Western world's lowest percentage of translated books out of its total title production, but more titles are translated from the French in the US than from any other language.
During the Second Empire, certain moderate Republicans from France, Belgium and Switzerland reached American soil following Napoleon III's Coup d'Etat. Many arrived in New York City, where they published in French a number of newspapers, two of which are the subject of study. The first, Le Républicain, expressed its protest against the Empire ; the second, Le Messager Franco-Américain, took a greater interest in American politics, motived by the impact of the Civil War. Their joint purpose was to have the French voice heard throughout the United States.
- « Cet obscur objet du désir » : l'objet de collection dans la fiction fitzgeraldienne - Pascale Antolin p. 11 pages This paper seeks to demonstrate both the strategic and the heuristic role of collections in Fitzgerald's fiction. While they reveal the heroes' (sexual) desire, they also expose a double system of reference which is both mimetic and reflexive. They are thus symptomatic objects exhibiting a close link not only between desire and fiction but also between collector and author throughout the novelist's work.
