| Résumé |
Cet article retrace l'élaboration d'un essai clinique multicentrique français en psychochirurgie (i.e. le traitement chirurgical des troubles mentaux). À partir d'une observation ethnographique, il décrit comment un collectif de chercheurs et cliniciens est parvenu à faire émerger une pratique innovante et viable en adaptant la technologie à des enjeux et contraintes scientifiques et éthiques qui complexifiaient l'entreprise et lui étaient supérieurs. Il évoque ainsi comment un essai clinique peut être utilisé comme ressource stratégique et comme lieu de création et de réflexivité, adapté localement aux situations complexes de son utilisation. Marqué et façonné par son contexte d'élaboration, cet essai a suscité une innovation organisationnelle. Il a déplacé l'enjeu de démonstration lié à l'efficacité du traitement vers celui de la constitution d'un réseau de recherche innovant en psychiatrie. Source : Éditeur (via Cairn.info) |

Fort the common good and everyone interest. Clinical trial and organizational innovation in psychosurgery. This paper plots out the history of the development of a French multi-center clinical trial in psychosurgery (i.e. surgery for mental disorders). Based on ethnographic observation, it sets out to explore the way in which a collective of clinicians and researchers succeed in developing a viable, innovating practice by adapting the technology to scientific and ethical stakes and constraints that render the undertaking more complex. This article questions how a clinical trial can be used as a strategic resource and a venue for reflection and innovation locally adapted to the context of its implementation. Finally, this clinical trial came to be an organizational innovation which shifted the focus from the demonstration of the treatment efficiency towards the creation of an innovating psychiatric research network in France.
