Through the development of factorial ecology, the application of multidimensional analysis to studies of the socio-demographic composition of urban areas has improved our understanding of the residential context of life. Further this progress permits a renewed analysis of immigrant settlements. This paper presents a typology describing the residential context of life in which various immigrant groups find themselves.
