Résumé anglais Chronicle of an opportunist endemic Disease. Rural Land Development and Onchocerciasis in North Cameroon (Faro Focus). The intention of this study is to reconstruct the epidemiological history of a savanna onchocerciasis focus, basing on the evolution of the blindness rates. The endemic level of this disease was tolerated by population at the beginning of the colonial period, because the intensive space occupancy system of the piedmont by Dowayo, restricted the contact between man and the black fly vector. Because of lack of knowledge about the incurred danger, the policy of plains land development induced a severe transmission with disastrous sanitary, demographic and economic consequences.
