Gender in Sweden: a Challenge for Society and a Matter of Research in Geography. This paper takes place in the context of the present debates and arguments about gender. It aims to present and inform about the Swedish experience since the country has developed, since many years, several social and political actions for more equality between men and women. The observation of the last four decades first shows the steps and principles governing the progressive implementation of policies and laws integrating a gender perspective. We will then discuss how gender became a matter of research, supporting the reflections going on in the society.
