- Introduction - Jean-Jacques Franckel p. 3-15
- À propos de même - Antoine Culioli p. 16-27 An analysis of the various uses of même, including a special consideration for its position in the utterance, is brought out within the framework of a "schematic form", considered as an abstract (metalinguistic) form, liable to lay the foundation of a reasoning on the variation of the value of the word, and, thus, to simulate what is bound to remain moving, unsteady and inaccessible in itself.
- Identité et variation de l'adjectif grand - Sarah De Vogüé, Jean-Jacques Franckel p. 28-41 The aim of this article is to make out the principles of variation of the meaning of the adjective grand. The paper outlines to this purpose a "schematic form" as an access to the identity of the word. On a wider ground, the analysis investigates the way the variation stretches out in the semantics of lexical items. The authors also account for the reason why the meaning of the adjectives proves to be so fluctuating, and consider the types of parameters and configurations at stake.
- Le mot clé. Variations sémantiques et régularité des fonctionnements - Pierre Péroz p. 42-53 Taking the example of the French word « clé », the author argues that such a word is neither concrete nor abstract, massive or countable in itself, and should not be analysed through a reference to an object of the world. The function of a name is to allow, through its different uses, various types of embodiment of a notion, which remains in itself inaccessible. The author accounts for the variation of the word within the framework of a theory of the construction of occurrences of a notion.
- Les emplois du mot raison, entre singularité et régularité - Akwa Doumbé Bétoté p. 54-62 This paper aims at bringing out the identity of the word raison through an examination of the role it plays in the various types of construction and lexical surroundings where it is employed. The author suggests a general characterisation accounting for the diversity of its meanings.
- Identité et variation du verbe jouer - Mârcia Cristina Romero-Lopes p. 63-73 This paper is based on the hypothesis that the identity of the French verb jouer cannot be reduced to a given basic meaning. The author holds that the word can be considered as a potential which gets actualised in its different uses. She proposes both a definition of this potential, in terms of a "schematic form", and a means to account for the variation of the meaning of the verb through the different ways this schematic form can be brought into play. can be considered as a potential which gets actualised in its different uses. - Étude sémantique du préfixe RE en français contemporain : à propos de plusieurs débats actuels en morphologie dérivationnelle - Pierre Jalenques p. 74-90 In this article, we study the semantic properties of the French prefix RE used with verbs. We are mainly dealing with two issues 1) what status should be granted to the intuition of native speakers, about the polysemy and the idiomaticity of such verbs as reconnaître, remarquer, regarder? We argue that these verbs should not be submitted to intuition but within utterances; 2) how can we account for the polysemy and the idiomaticity of verbs prefixed with RE, from a synchronical point of view? We argue that a dynamic analysis of the semantic relations between the prefix, the stem of the verbs and also the argument structure of the verbs can account for those data.
- Contribution à l'analyse du préfixe sous- combiné avec des bases verbales - Denis Paillard p. 91-110 This article puts forward a systematic description of prefixed verbs that include the prefix sous- (about 20 items). Starting from an hypothesis on the semantic identity of sous (defined in terms of "schematic form"), the author brings out, in the first section, the semantic properties at work in the various verbs built with this prefix. The second section works out an analysis of the combination prefix-base, which is bound to take into account the lexical and syntaxical properties or the items at stake in this combination. Theses properties can only be unserstood through the interaction with other items of the proposition. In the conclusion, the author suggests that this approach can be generalised to the prefixation of other types of words, such as nouns and adjectives.
- À l'emporte-pièce : de la métaphore à l'outil - François Thuillier p. 111-125 This article is based on the hypothesis that the meaning of à l'emporte-pièce can be accounted for through an examination of the different lexical units it is made of. We therefore start with defining what makes up the identity of each word contained in the expression. Then we show that the global semantic features of à l'emporte-pièce result from the interaction between its components. The purpose of our paper is to question the traditional views according to which the meaning of a set expression is, as such, not liable to be analysed.
